Self-consistent multiple testing procedures

چکیده
We study the control of the false discovery rate (FDR) for a general class of multiple testing procedures. We introduce a general condition, called “self-consistency”, on the set of hypotheses rejected by the procedure, which we show is sufficient to ensure the control of the corresponding false discovery rate under various conditions on the distribution of the pvalues. Maximizing the size of the rejected null hypotheses set under the constraint of selfconsistency, we recover various step-up procedures. As a consequence, we recover earlier results through simple and unifying proofs while extending their scope to several regards: arbitrary measure of set size, p-value reweighting, new family of step-up procedures under unspecified p-value dependency. Our framework also allows for defining and studying FDR control for multiple testing procedures over a continuous, uncountable space of hypotheses.

Two simple sufficient conditions for FDR control
We show that the control of the false discovery rate (FDR) for a multiple testing procedure is implied by two coupled simple sufficient conditions. The first one, which we call “self-consistency condition”, concerns the algorithm itself, and the second, called “dependency control condition” is related to the dependency assumptions on the p-value family. Many standard multiple testing procedures...
متن کاملDisparities in preventive procedures: comparisons of self-report and Medicare claims data
BACKGROUND Racial/ethnic disparities are assessed using either self-report or claims data. We compared these two data sources and examined contributors to discrepancies in estimates of disparities. METHODS We analyzed self-report and matching claims data from Medicare Beneficiaries 65 and older who participated in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, 1999-2002. Six preventive procedures w...

In this paper, we consider an i.e., multiple step-stress accelerated life testing (ALT) experiment with unequal duration of time . It is assumed that the time to failure of a product follows Rayleigh distribution with a log-linear relationship between stress and lifetime and also we assume a generalized Khamis-Higgins model for the effect of changing stress levels. Taking into account that the...

Nowadays, in line with trends in language teaching that follow the use of student-centered teaching/testing activities, there is growing consensus that students differ in their multiple intelligences. Furthermore, self-efficacy is one of the determining factors of success for people almost in any context. Assuming that the multiple intelligences profiles in tandem with self-efficacy of teachers...
متن کاملModel-Based Approach to FDR Estimation
False Discovery Rate (FDR) has become commonly used in multiple comparisons, in part driven by studies involving large numbers of parameters, e.g. microarray data analysis. FDR is a philosophically different approach from traditional hypothesis testing, and it offers a conceptually consistent framework for multiple hypothesis testing when the primary objective focuses on discovery instead of te...
